World War IV

Here. Now.

You’ve been watching the Middle East “explode” this week. Again. Wondering what’s going on? Bombs falling, rockets flying, bullets zinging. Concerned? You should be. Welcome to World War IV.

On one side, you have the “Free World,” which recognizes individual freedom to varying degrees. On the other side, you have “Tyrannists,” a loose amalgamation of nations who believe, for one reason or another, that they should rule over the individual for one reason or another.

Until recently, virtually every government featured Tyrants: kings, tribes, despots, enlightened despots, communism, socialism, fascism, feudalism, aristocracy, autocracy, warlords, dictatorships, single-party systems, monarchy, constitutional monarchy, triumvirate, deified dictator, oligarchy, emperor, theocracies, military dictatorships, federations, unions and more. Every one of these governments features a tyrannical leader whose power is gained at the expense of its people.

But once thinkers like Hobbes, Locke, Mills, Paine, Rousseau, and Jefferson kicked down the philosophical doors of tyranny, the European parliamentary system and the American federal republic showed up. And all hell broke loose. The threat to Tyrannists has caused virtually every war since. That is why the last 200 years have been more violent than the preceding 10,000 years. Tyrannical States have been battling to defend their turf.

Freedom has had its successes. The American Revolution ushered the downfall of the British Empire. The First World War ended the concept of European oligarchy, aristocracy and monarchy all at once. World War II saw the end of the national socialist (Nazi) state, and crushed the military-emperor state. True, Bolsheviks and communists tossed away the Tsars, but Ronald Reagan took care of that. That was World War III, incidentally.

Over the last 200 years, more people died in wars defeating tyrants and creating freedom than in all the previous wars in recorded history. Why? Because every tyrant knows freedom is their doom.

Now, the Free World is seemingly suffering the nuisance of a few scattered Islamic wackos. They will kill a few thousand people across the world over the next few years. Enough to grumble over, but not enough to ring the big alarm.

But this is World War IV, the greatest test freedom has ever faced. The monotheistic Islamic tyrannists. are serious. Their stated goal is to kill “infidels” who do not conform to their version of Islam, featuring dehumanization of women, conformity of an 8th Century lifestyle and complete surrender to Islamic faith. Muslims believe that they will go to heaven if they die for their faith. And the Qur’an, the central Muslim test, features over 100 instances where adherents are urged to kill non-believers. Their concept of “innocent” does not include Islam believers. And if they kill Islamic passers-by, they have been sent to heaven as noble casualties in jihad, the Holy War.

In the 7th Century, the Middle East was almost 100% Christian. Within one hundred years, Islam dominated from the Atlantic coast of North Africa to the Middle East.

Do you better understand the enemy now?

In some cases, these radical Muslims are protected and encouraged by governments with no apparent religious interest. In other cases, like Iran and Syria, nations create Islamo-terrorism. Either way, Islamofascists don’t complain. And like Africanized killer bees, they’ve spent years radicalizing mosques in the Free World.

To complicate matters, other Tyrannist nations recognize the threat freedom presents, and have rallied to help Islamo-fascists. Communist states like China are prodding Satellite states like North Korea into antagonizing Japan and America. Newly minted Russia is teetering between democracy and a mafia state, sometimes helping by cranking up oil production, sometimes hurting by selling arms to terrorists. Both nations throw wrenches into the diplomatic machine.

Yet the greatest threat isn’t Tyrannists, but Free Worlders squabbling amongst themselves, backsliding into nationalism, jealousy and pettiness, throwing up ridiculous roadblocks and ignoring, even assisting the growing threat from the Tyrannists, debating the menu while the kitchen is burning.

Such idiocy generally ends when a lightning bolt delivers an undeniable smack, such as Hitler’s invasion of Poland, or the Soviet tanks rolling into Prague. But interestingly, even those instances rarely trigger war. Instead, they inspire worldwide hand-wringing. Indeed, burning towers on 9-11 inspired a mere handful of nations to defend freedom.

No, war usually arrives when Tyrannists have freedom by the throat. That’s when the Hot Line rings at the White House. This time, George Bush knew how to answer, putting the enemy on defense rather than defend the streets of New York. Few recognize this Fourth Challenge to freedom. We will see if the Free World will preserve itself. Unfortunately, much depends on who answers that call on the Hot Line.
