Future of the DemocratsHeading over the falls?by Tom Adkins The 2004 election is over. The chads have been counted. Bush won, Kerry lost. Now, each side will assess the carnage, whip out crystal balls and divine the future. Republicans learned our base is expanding. We finally exposed and attacked the thoroughly corrupt left-wing media. And we discovered morality is indeed a big issue. And we own it. Now, we'll be fixing Social Security, appointing conservative judges, and ripping away the twin economic anchors of bureaucratic red tape and the punitive tax code. Towards 2008, we are looking at expanding the congress, maybe even a veto-proof 60 seat Senate majority (61 counting Arlen Specter). And of course, recruiting solid conservative candidates.Overall? Promising. After their electoral spanking, what have Democrats learned? Apparently, nothing. From coast to coast, Democrats are ranting, raving and baying at the moon. They are blaming the stupid voters, frothing at diabolical Republicans and even threatening to move to Canada. (Note to Democrats: Please&go.) Disillusioned Dems are even visiting psychiatrists in droves, claiming "post-election selection trauma." One guy even tried to set himself on fire in front of the White House. (Note to Democrats&oh, never mind.) And it's not just the little people. Lawrence O'Donnell spent a week on "Hardball" rampaging with vitriol and spittle flying in every direction. Bob Herbert of the New York Times claimed Bush voters were clueless, and put their brains on hold. In fact, Democrats refuse to believe their liberal ideas cost them this election. It was everything else. Anything else. Anyone else. Their solution? They are vowing to get more liberal. In fact, some Democrats have claimed John Kerry cost them this election by hiding his hardcore liberalism and flip-flopping all over the place, therefore robbing the left of their natural anti-war, anti-American, tree-hugging, class warfare liberalism. Next time, they insist America will be treated to solid, old-fashioned hard-core left-wing socialism. If Democrats lost by 3 million votes this year, what happens if they pull off their mask and America discovers Karl Marx, Chairman Mao, and Jimmy Carter? Pass the Kool-Aid, Reverend Jones. Democrats don't even recognize how they survived this long. We gave liberalism a try in the 60s and 70s. The tax-and-spend welfare state failed. Kumbaya diplomacy failed. And the Hugh Hefner morality play was a disaster. The nation perceives almost every vaunted liberal idea as if liberals have the King Midas touch in reverse: everything they touch goes to hell. And since the 80s, America has been steadily moving back to the right. That's why Democrats cannot win elections unless they lie, cheat or steal. And the past two elections saw fabulous Democrat efforts in all three categories. But this time, Republicans were ready. Cable TV and the Internet, particularly bloggers, conspired to instantly challenge every Democrat fib. The old media's blatant efforts to help Kerry were exposed. And for once, Republicans fought back. The RNC assembled a fabulous ground game, revealing and stopping unprecedented Democrat voter fraud. Plus, the GOP get out the vote effort was extraordinary. And we won. Republicans proved that good can defeat evil, as long as you actually make an effort. So, getting back to the point. Where are Democrats heading? Into complete, total and unmitigated disaster. Facing a choice between their nation and their political philosophy, Democrats have chosen politics. Facing a changing electorate, Democrats refuse to reform. Facing the truth, Democrats are in blinded denial. Thus, there are two distinct reasons Democrats are rushing headlong into oblivion: One, liberalism didn't work. Two, they won't admit it. Even to themselves. There is one notable exception. James Carville, the guy who managed to get the only Democrat since Jimmy Carter into the White House, is the lone voice of semi-wisdom within the loony left cacophony. He bluntly claimed "We've got to reassess ourselves. We've got to be born again." Hmmmm&think that might happen? Let's see&their likely candidate for 2008 is the hard-core, hard-left, hard-headed Hillary Clinton. And current front-runner for DNC chief? The further left, further hard-core and quite possibly less sane Howard Dean. Today, the party of John F. Kennedy and FDR has become the party of Michael Moore, George Soros, and MoveOn.org. Democrats are not swimming back to the mainstream. They are heading over the falls. Democrat leaders are mixing the Kool-Aid. And the followers are thirsty to drink it. That's certainly one way to kill a party. For permission to reprint this article, please contact us at editor@commonconservative.com |
